Based on theoretical conceptualization of personal-level accountability, this paper sets out to apply this research to the school context, and to develop and validate a scale to measure individual differences in accountability. We tested the convergent validity of the new measure vis-à-vis real-life work accountability scenarios, using school-teachers as participants. Results showed that the accountability disposition measure correlated positively with accountability work scenarios. We also tested construct validity vis-à-vis various dimensions of goal orientation, work ethic, conscientiousness and agreeableness, using school principals as participants. Results showed that these constructs were largely related to accountability disposition. The scales developed in this study may be used to enhance research on employees’ dispositional accountability inclinations and their contribution to school accountability.
