Preservice Teachers Speak: Perspectives on the Teacher Performance Assessment

Thu, April 3, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Convention Center, Floor: Terrrace Level, Terrace III

Abstract

Effective teachers produce effective learning environments for their students. To produce effective teachers, education programs must, in part, use assessments that can predict the ability of its teacher candidates to teach in powerful ways. This project was a case study of the pilot of the Teacher Performance Assessment (TPA, renamed edTPA) in two teacher education programs at City University. Twelve teacher candidates in their full time student teaching semester shared their experiences with the pilot. They also made recommendations that could inform teacher education programs currently implementing or considering the adoption of the TPA.
