Professional Wrestling Fandom as a Site for Connected Learning

Abstract

The study of youth learning in informal spaces offers insight into the types of practices and skill development youth use in their interest spaces. This paper describes the online professional wrestling community the Wrestling Boards and the activities of its participants. It illustrates instances of learning in the community using the connected learning framework, while also highlighting how these activities, coded under the connected learning framework, fulfill Common Core standards.
