In this paper, we discuss five design considerations for developing an innovative and sustained TLC (Technology-Mediated Learning Community) environment for teacher learning and professional development. Our goal was to create the optimal context for teachers to discuss, develop, and share their professional knowledge in a collaborative setting. We asked: What design considerations critically impact the development of an effective TLC? Participants emphasized five critical features for promoting and sustaining their professional learning: 1) inclusivity, 2) diversity, 3) affective scaffolding, 4) distributed leadership, and 5) inquiry-based reflection.
