Consolidation and Culture: Faculty Perceptions of Organizational Type

Mon, April 7, 8:15 to 9:45am, Convention Center, Floor: 100 Level, 120C

Abstract

A successful consolidation is, according to the available literature, highly correlated with organizational culture and the understandings of faculty. We investigate an on-going consolidation between a health-science university (HSU) and a liberal arts university (LAU) to explore faculty perceptions of organizational culture both before and after consolidation, as well as the match or ‘fit’ faculty feel to their organization. Initial results indicate a difference in organizational cultures to prior to consolidation – Business at the HSU and Collegial at the LAU – but all faculty predicts the same, strong, Business culture post-consolidation. The perceptions of occupational fit with the organizational culture were stronger for both groups prior to consolidation and slipped into more neutral territory post consolidation.
