Abstract

This study explores teachers’ narratives about practice, their reflections on what they do in the classrooms and their rationale as they explore theory on what constitutes effective practices for literacy development and instruction. The narratives explored were shared as part of a professional development program aimed at building a collaborative school community in which ESL and bilingual teachers partnered to jointly develop effective language and literacy practices. In this study, I explore teachers’ beliefs system around the concept of inquiry as revealed through their narratives. Mainly, the purpose is to inquiry how participating teachers’ oral and written narratives provide insights into how teachers reexamine beliefs and theories that guide practice.
