Finding the Sweet Spot: E-Portfolios Connecting Personal, Classroom, and Field-Based Learning Experiences

Sat, April 5, 8:15 to 9:45am, Marriott, Floor: Fourth Level, 406

Abstract

The purpose of this research study was to investigate how students in a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) program were using an ePortfolio process to document their achievement of the knowledge, skills and attributes related to Interim Certification by connecting their personal, classroom, and field-based learning experiences. All faculty involved in this program participated in an interview (n=6) and all second year students were invited to complete an online survey during the winter 2013 semester (n=57). Preliminary findings suggest that students use the ePortfolio process to connect their learning by: having all their learning artifacts in one place to connect, critique, and reflect upon; being able to document their professional growth; journaling in each of their courses; and peer mentoring and collaboration.
