Psychometric Investigation of a Professional Licensure Clinical Exam

Abstract

Many-facets Rasch Model (MFRM) will be used to examine the characteristics of clinical certification exam used to make decisions about minimally competent doctors’ ability to practice. Secondary data consisting of 198 international chiropractic doctors will be used in the investigation. The purpose of the study is to examine item fit, reliability, and scale dimensionality of the instrument. Cut-score information will be investigated to assess the adequacy of existing cut scores used to identify minimally competent doctors. The MFRM simultaneously defines the ability of the examinee, item difficulty, severity of judges, and different forms of the test. Thus, providing estimates of item difficulty and examinee ability that are independent of judges and forms for making inferences about doctor’s ability to practice.
