Examining the Military Veteran-to-Career College Student Transition

Abstract

The de-escalation of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan has led to a significant rise in the student veteran population among all higher education institutions. Research in this field is emergent and tends to focus on the experiences and programs at traditional state and private 4-year institutions as well as the community college. However, the career college has largely been overlooked and under researched with regards to the student veteran transition experience. The unique environmental characteristics of the career college, coupled with the unique pre-entry characteristics of the military veteran present the potential for transition experiences different to that of traditional 4-year and community college student veterans.
