Assessing Assessment Texts: Where Is Planning?

Sun, April 6, 8:15 to 9:45am, Convention Center, Floor: Terrrace Level, Terrace III

Abstract

The purpose of this investigation was to develop a sound perspective on how preservice teachers are prepared for assessment planning by providing a content analysis of Classroom Assessment textbooks for information on this topic. Texts included in this analysis needed to be about K-12 general classroom assessment and directed to preservice teachers. Through this process we identified 29 texts that met our criteria, nine of which had chapters specifically devoted to assessment planning. Twenty-nine codes were identified in these chapters and these codes were condensed into eight meaningful themes. Significance to researchers and practitioners is discussed.
