Abstract

This study compares the ways in which civic-mindedness and civic engagement activities within the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programmes are conducted across multiple countries, including the United States, Canada, and multiple nations in South America. The study investigates the impact of participating in these activities on IB high school students and identifies both the program design features and contextual variables (such as motivation to participate) associated with highest impacts in the areas of social-emotional development, civic engagement, and ethic of service. Qualitative and quantitative data from exploratory and confirmatory studies are presented.
