Public Library Video Game Spaces and Innovative Practices: (Re)conceptualizing Design Dispositions and Student Literacies

Mon, April 7, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Marriott, Floor: Fourth Level, Franklin 13

Abstract

This paper draws upon collaborative research of public library videogame environments and examines spatial designs in relation to the development of students’ literacies and multimodal learning. More specifically, a cross-case analysis of videogame play space and areas designated for teen use at New Jersey and Texas public libraries reveal aspects of design that both afforded and constrained adolescent literacy practices.
