Commercial apprenticeship is amongst the most popular vocational educational trainings in Switzerland, but to date only little is known about the professional development. This study focuses on learning motivation and professional satisfaction after three months of apprenticeship start. This topic is especially important regarding the remaining within the profession. Thus most training companies who provide commercial apprentices are motivated in recruiting well-educated specialist. By means of a paper-pencil questionnaire 1754 commercial apprentices were questioned. Results show that significant differences between gender and educational profile exist regarding learning motivation and professional satisfaction. Furthermore, it was found that about 16% of the remaining intention’s variance is explained by those factors. The next data collection will show how these relationships develop.
