This paper looks beyond the impacts of high-stakes testing on pedagogy at perceived impacts on the ways social studies is being affected by high-stakes testing related to teachers’ decision making and academic freedom. We compared secondary social studies teachers’ perceived degree of administrative support and curricular control in tested and non-tested states and found that in tested states, teachers perceive significantly more administrative support and significantly less curricular control.
