Emerging Trend of Distance and Teacher Education in Ghana

Abstract

The demand for higher education in Ghana has been on the rise for the past two decades. Consequently, there is pressure on the government to institute quick and viable alternative solutions to curb the incidence where qualified applicants are often denied admission to higher education. Secondary data from public universities that offer degree programs through distance education was analyzed. Results indicate a steady progression of students in teacher education programs in distance education over the last ten years. The results of secondary data, prospects, and challenges facing distance and teacher education in Ghana. Possible solutions, recommendation for future research, and conclusion follow.
