Eight mid-career women academics in 2011 provided their interpretation of descriptive statistics derived from a 2011 survey of 90 mid-career women academics. Interviewees identified four key traps: changing goal posts; unfair workloads and expectations; negative consequences of women speaking out; the tension between self-centric focus vs multi centric foci. These four traps were re-analysed regarding organisational justice. Procedural justice was represented as something that was veiled. The lack of distributed fairness was found in subtle messages the mid-career women experienced or events they observed regularly. The lack of interactional justice was presented at limited transparency and intended outcomes were not viewed as having considered the impact on women academics.
