Factor Structure of the Revised Attitudes Toward Research Scale

Abstract

One of the few measures that exist in relation to measuring student’s attitudes in the subject area of research methodology, is the Attitudes Toward Research scale. Recent studies of the psychometrics properties of the scale however, revealed that some adaptations are needed to increase its degree of reliability and validity. The purpose of this study was to test the reliability and construct validity of the Revised Attitude Toward Research Scale (R-ATR) with a sample of data from Greek students taking a distance learning research course. The confirmatory factor analysis that was performed supported the fit of the model, which can be used to assess college student’s ‘Positive predispositions towards research methods courses’, ‘Research course anxiety’ and perceptions of ‘Research usefulness’.
