This paper presents the findings of a case study of a yearlong research-based peace education program at one urban Latino k-8 private Catholic school. While many studies focus on outcomes, few studies direct sufficient attention onto the messy complexities of implementation. Accordingly, the focus in this paper is not solely on students’ subjective impressions or measured growth, but more broadly on exploring the delicate contours of teaching peace in this particular context. As such, a heavy emphasis rests on the teachers’ impressions of, and interactions with, the program. Two prominent paradigms in education research (culturally responsive pedagogy and constructivism) are used to illuminate some of the dynamics and tensions at play during the course of the yearlong peace education program.
