Little is known about what pedagogies preservice teachers may adopt in teaching with their preferred social media in placement schools. This paper reports a multi-case study on preservice teachers’ pedagogies when using social media in teaching. Three research questions were addressed: (1) What social media did the preservice teachers prefer to use during their practicums, (2) how often did the teachers use these social media in teaching, and (3) what pedagogies did the teachers adopt while involving social media in teaching in the placement schools? Although YouTube was the most preferred social medium used in teaching, the preservice teachers mostly adopted didactic pedagogy with high frequencies of social media use during their teaching practicums. Implications for teacher education are discussed.
