Research Framework for Career and Technical Education Programs

Abstract

Emerging from literature on planning and implementation in higher education, a conceptual framework was identified for the assessment and study of career and technical education programs. The framework, to be shared at the symposium, calls for integrated strategic planning at the university, college, and departmental level as a precondition for consensus on desired programs and ensure viability. Further, the framework suggests that higher education programs should build upon a comprehensive examination of the alignment among program mission, nature of curriculum and instruction, administrative supports, and external supports. In this context, implications for related research and the need for a holistic understanding of program planning and implementation, and the connection to theoretical applications to program research and evaluation will be discussed.
