The Impact of Teacher Leadership Selection in Creating Equitable Educational Opportunities

Abstract

This qualitative multiple case study analysis of three urban high schools examines the impact of teacher leadership selection on a school’s ability to create equitable learning opportunities for freshmen of color. Findings highlight that teacher leadership selection influenced five areas of equitable opportunities including program/support development, location of support, plasticity of programs and supports, support structures for new leaders, and ways in which new teacher leaders were nurtured in their work.
