ABSTRACT
This paper introduces Hartman’s (1995) ecomap as a practical approach to gathering qualitative data. Ecomaps have been used in the fields of social work, healthcare, and education to assess and describe networks and relationships. In this session, we will demonstrate the use of the ecomap as it was applied in a study of the kindergarten transition of students with disabilities. Specifically, this session will address the benefits of utilizing an ecomap to capture qualitative data, the process used to construct an ecomap, the data analysis process, and suggestions for future use of the ecomap as a qualitative data gathering mechanism.
