Multimodal Learning Clubs in the Middle School

Abstract

Multimodal learning clubs link principles of motivation and engagement with 21st century technological tools and text to support content area learning. This project describes how a sixth grade teacher incorporated these clubs into a unit of study. The students worked collaboratively with texts both on and offline that ranged from standard print, digital, and fixed and moving images to meet curricular goals. The success of this project in this classroom has potential to support disciplinary learning across the content areas.
