Besides the training of professional knowledge and skills, it is the aim of a Swiss commercial apprenticeship to foster civic-economical competence. Currently, there is no empirical data on the topic of students` achievement in this area. In this study we are modelling and measuring civic-economical competence in the last training year of these trainees (N = 260). Moreover, the study is embedded in a network of several research projects within the German ASCOT-Initiative, which is focusing on the measurement of competencies in vocational education and training. Thus, our data allows comparisons between Switzerland and Germany in this area. We conclude by discussing the theoretical background of the competence model and the psychometric quality of our developed achievement test.
