This paper identifies and analyzes reflective thinking as designed and advocated by John Dewey that ultimately became the teaching practice model of H. Gordon Hullfish. This work is important because the concept of reflective thinking in education as addressed by Dewey and implemented in practice by Hullfish is arguably an essential ingredient of an issues-centered and critical theory based classroom representing Dewey’s vision of public education and democracy.
Contemporary teaching can benefit from a reexamination of Dewey’s concept of reflective teaching in education in much the same manner that Hullfish successfully integrated reflective thinking teaching and learning in his classroom.
