Inclusion of Instructional Technology to Increase Engagement and Achievement

Abstract

This mixed methods research project explored the impact of e-readers on emerging readers’ engagement in reading as well as literacy achievement in a first, looping to second, grade public elementary school classroom in the Pacific Northwest. Additionally through the study, knowledge was gained on perspectives, successes, and challenges related to incorporating instructional technology, and what systems must be in place for the inclusion of technology to be successful for students and teachers. Research findings and other resources cited offer policymakers, administrators, scholars, teacher educators, and K12 practitioners insight and guidance on successful practices and policies for incorporating technology which can advance engagement and literacy skills for our younger students.
