Factors Associated With the Receipt of Disability-Specific Accommodations and Supports in College: National Perspective

Thu, April 3, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Convention Center, Floor: Terrrace Level, Terrace III

Abstract

Despite the benefits of disability-specific supports, only 24% of postsecondary students received at least one accommodation, modification, or service while in college, whereas 98% did so in high school. This session provides the most detailed information to date related to which students receive these services and which are less likely to do so. Findings indicate that students with higher levels of autonomy and empowerment, and those who took leadership roles in high school transition planning were more likely to receive services at the college level. In addition, having a transition plan that specifically identified postsecondary accommodations as a needed support after high school was associated with receipt. Analyses were drawn from the nationally-representative, large-scale National Longitudinal Transition Study-2 (NLTS2) dataset.
