This paper examines differences in how faculty members feel senior leaders (e.g., deans, provosts, presidents) foster an environment that enhances classroom innovation at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and Predominately White Institutions (PWI). Data from the 2012 administration of the Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (FSSE) reveal the differences between how the relationships between faculty perceptions of senior leaders’ support and several teaching practices (e.g., active classroom practice) vary between HBCUs and PWIs, if at all. The results add to our understanding of how much senior leaders support both faculty teaching practices and teaching-related resources.
