Leading for Learning Through an Adaptive Leadership Network

Abstract

Leadership within any social organization, but in those specifically known as “schools” and “school districts” demands an adaptive leadership mindset because of the continually emerging and dynamic complexities of modern life. Further, those who mentor and develop leaders are well-served by also adopting an adaptive leadership mindset. When aiming to facilitate and enact meaningful, relevant professional learning that builds leaders’ instructional capacity to lead for learning, incorporating adaptive leadership mindsets is the best means for modeling the strength of their use in leading for others’ learning. The purpose of this participatory action research project is to explore how to effectively lead in this environment with an eye toward designing an empirically-based program for leadership preparation and development.
