The Effect of a Holistic Wellness Program on Workplace Productivity in a Government Environment

Sun, April 6, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Convention Center, Floor: 200 Level, Hall E

Abstract

Employers need to focus on the health of their human capital in order to maximize productivity and return on investment (ROI). Wellness programs are one method to improve employee health. However, there is a research gap in identifying relationships between holistic wellness programs and workplace performance. This study examined 100 pre and post workplace performance scores and biometric health assessments of Department of Defense (DoD) employees that participated in FEP. We found a small but statistically significant workplace performance score increase for employees participating in this initiative. We also found significant improvements to health such as weight loss and increase in exercise. These results give employers evidence that holistic wellness programs may indeed impact not only health but also performance.
