Criterion Validity for the easyCBM Grades K-5 Reading Measures

Abstract

We present results from two criterion validity studies that examined Grades K-1 and Grades 2-5 easyCBM® reading measures with tests with known reliability and validity evidence such as the Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) and the TOWRE Sight Word Efficiency.
The Kindergarten easyCBM and DIBELS Letter Names (r=.86) and Phoneme Segmenting (r=.85). For Grade 1, the easyCBM® Word Reading Fluency correlated strongly with the TOWRE SWE (r=.95). The correlation between easyCBM® vocabulary and comprehension-based measures and comparator measures ranged from low to moderate (rs = .39 - .76). The easyCBM® fluency-based measures were strongly associated with the DIBELS Oral Reading Fluency (r > .80).
