There has been an increasing interest in the “global” across the US educational sector in recent years. Despite this interest, there is no agreed-upon definition of what constitutes a globally-oriented education (Parker, 2011; Hill, 2012; Hayden, 2011) and little research into the phenomenon. Based on interviews, site visits, and document analysis analyzed through the lens of cosmopolitanism, we investigate in the current study the different ways in which schools are preparing students to be citizens in a globalized world. Our findings revealed seven strategies for integrating the “global” into schooling, two of which we illustrate through detailed descriptions; these strategies form the basis of a conceptual framework for future research in global schooling.
