The Intersectionality of Applied Critical Leadership: Toward Inclusivity in Higher Education

Mon, April 7, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Convention Center, Floor: 100 Level, 122A

Abstract

Lorri J. Santamaría will begin the symposium by discussing the theoretical assumptions underpinning ACL and how ACL can serve as a blueprint to guide and assist higher education personnel’s engagement in focused, courageous, and fearless conversations and leadership practices examining assumptions around the implicit and explicit pathways to leadership opportunities in their institutions. This study examines ACL’s application through identifying: (1) the five most prevalent critical challenges requiring organizational leadership, resources and attention among nine educational leaders in higher education in colleges and universities in the USA and New Zealand; and (2) ACL strategies used by these critical leaders in addressing issues related to educational access and equity in their educational contexts. By revealing these alternative approaches, this contribution interrupts some of the inequities inherent in higher education by addressing barriers for historically underserved students in higher education.
