Brenda Lloyd-Jones responds to calls “for the advancement of theories and practice relevant to women of color in leadership roles” in the academy (Lloyd-Jones, 2011, p. xxi) by presenting a review of the existing literature on higher education and organizational change (e.g., Eagly & Chin, 2010; Jackson, & O'Callaghan, 2009; Kezar, 2001; Kezar, Carducci, & Contreras-McGavin, 2006). She will follow with an analysis of how ACL enhances our understanding of women of color’s experiences in gaining access to and success in leadership at higher education institutions. Additionally, she will consider how ACL offers a lens to include the standpoints of historically marginalized groups that traditionally have not had access to positions of power, privilege, and prestige in society (Jean-Marie, 2011; Lloyd-Jones, 2009, Middlehurst, 2008; Turner, 2002).
