For the Idle No More movement, teach-ins – community-based gatherings to share political and cultural understandings about Indigenous peoples and lands in Canada – have been successful and sustainable practices of decolonizing Place-based education. These events show the potential of Place-based education in supporting Indigenous sovereignty in Canada and of exposing and disrupting the violations of lands and of Indigenous rights perpetrated by the neoliberal institutions in government, and in education. All of Canada is Indigenous territories: Territorially- and culturally-specific Indigenous education such as this is crucial to the process of fostering ‘right relation’ between the peoples and the lands in Canada.
