Abstract

A methodological review of science education articles using the PISA and TIMSS data published by journals indexed in the SSCI database from 1996 to 2012 was conducted. The identified 82 articles will be analyzed in terms of the statistical techniques used to analyze the PISA and TIMSS data. The initial results based on 34 articles indicate that the weights and design effects, essential adjustments for analyzing the large-scale databases, were used in more than half of the studies. The study also summaries the most commonly used quantitative methods for analyzing PISA and TIMSS data in these articles. Suggestions regarding the use of statistical techniques and reporting are made for researchers who utilize international large-scale data in their research.
