In this study we investigated the effects of a data team procedure to support schools in data-based decision making. Teachers and school leaders in teams, facilitated by a researcher from the university, learned how to collaboratively use data to improve their education, over a period of two years. To study the effects of the data team procedure we used a mixed-methods design, using a combination of a pretest-posttest and an experimental-control group design. The results are positive. For example, the results of a data literacy assessment administered to data team participants show that teachers knowledge and skills increased significantly. Also, teams were able to solve the educational problem they investigated and improved student achievement.
