Developing a Short Form of the Personal Style Inventory—II With the Rasch Model

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to improve the psychometric properties and utility of the Personal Style Inventory-II using the Rasch rating scale model. PSI-II is a 48-item inventory, which has two constructs; Autonomy and Sociotropy. To examine the cultural relevance of PSI-II, the Rasch-residual principal component analysis and fit statistics were considered for each construct separately with a Korean sample (N=307), and they showed that PSI-II is culturally invariant. The result of the rating scale model showed that a 4 point rating scale is better than the original categorization, and the 27-item short version was organized considering item location and content. For validity evidence, structural equation modeling was applied and it supports the sound psychometric properties of short form.
