Linking Educational Research to Practice in a Global Context: Teachers’ Civic Education Training in Chad

Abstract

This study was conducted amongst 55 teachers in Pk-12 classrooms in Chad and investigates the impact of civic education training on them. All participants responded to pre and post training surveys to examine changes in educational beliefs and practices. The study also reports on five teacher trainers who participated in the first workshop and were trained to co- lead the second. Those were interviewed in two focus group sessions within six months of training. The study suggests high levels of satisfaction with training amongst all and reported changes in educational practices of trainers and less with teachers who participated in one of the workshops. A number of contextual factors such as economic conditions and lack of basic infrastructures are discussed.
