In this presentation, we discuss three issues about multicultural education in Korea: (1) the current status of how multiculturalism is interpreted in Korea, a nation that has historically defined itself as a “one-race” nation, (2) factors that create challenges for marriage immigrants and their children for adjusting in Korean society through educational programs run by the government and higher education institutions in Korea and (3) suggestions for the next phase of multicultural education in Korea that are both expanded and more contextualized. The two authors of this study bring critical perspectives and expertise in intercultural communication as Korean-born US academics with experiences of teaching multicultural education in the US universities.
