The Case for Framing Multisource Feedback Around Distributed Leadership

Abstract

This paper reports research related to the development of a multisource feedback system framed around a distributed leadership model to improve impact and adoption of feedback results. Design features are identified through a literature review of formative assessment and feedback systems that can provide support for schools to improve leadership for learning. Findings include the process and findings of research underlying iterative development of the Comprehensive Assessment of Leadership for Learning (CALL) multisource feedback system. The assessment was developed through a four-year, $1.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education between 2009 and 2013. We conclude that many challenges found in research of multisource feedback systems can be bypassed by using a distributed leadership model.
