Abstract

Adopting a multiplex approach, this study seeks to understand how Hong Kong tertiary students appropriate multiple technologies in various stages of their inquiry-based group work. Of particular interest is the interplay of multiple technologies and the drivers and barriers behind the usage. This exploratory study uses individual interviews and various online artifacts as the main source of data. It has been revealed that rather than using wiki as the unified group space, the students deployed multiple tools based on their needs, strategies, and habits. The study has implications for researchers and practitioners on how to better examine and design group work with multiple technologies.
