“They Need to Learn With Us, Guinea Pigs”: Students’ Points of View About Student Teaching

Abstract

We know that teaching is taking into account interactions with students. Few studies have document students’ points of view about their experience of having a student teacher. A qualitative study was done among 24 students, 3 pre-service teachers and 3 associate teachers in three different high schools. The data collected from semi-directed interviews was analyzed as case studies. The results show a variety of reactions and issues towards the presence of a pre-service teacher, in terms of history and unpredactibility of the social system order of the class. Students’ point of views on student teachers throw new light on field experience and how student teachers learn about teaching practices, and the ways to learn them.
