The purpose of this paper is to share data from a collaborative partnership between a large state university and a local middle school. Preservice social studies and English/Language Arts teachers enrolled in a content area literacy course were paired with 7th grade students in US History and Literature classes and interacted interacted via kidblog.org around specific disciplinary based units and questions. In this paper, we explore the responses and reflections by these preservice teachers and how it impacted their thinking about teacher modeling and disciplinary literacy instruction. The blog interactions revealed shifts in the ways that preservice teachers discussed and understood the content themselves, as well as their efforts to scaffold the content for the middle grade students.
