How Leadership Development Evolves in an Interprofessional Team: Crossing Timescales and Boundaries

Mon, April 7, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Convention Center, Floor: Terrace Level, Terrace IV

Abstract

The body of research on leadership development document new trends such as working in cohort groups, workshops, teams etc. However, few studies document empirically how leadership development evolves over time in an interprofessional team of principals, district leaders, and researchers. The team was formed to support the principals leading a school improvement project aimed at increasing the students’ competence in approaching factual texts in and across disciplines. Cultural historical activity theory (CHAT) constitutes the analytic framework for the analysis. Development is examined during different units of time. Development is identified in episodes and in the development trajectory of the team. Some episodes seem to be conducive for how the situations are approached in the piloting schools in the local project.
