Examining Leadership Preparation for the Complex Roles of Assistant Principals

Mon, April 7, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Convention Center, Floor: 100 Level, 118A

Abstract

As university educational leadership programs redefine and redesign leadership preparation to respond to the changing complexities of school leadership, opportunities exist to examine how roles of school-based leaders might be different; what the unique needs might be of individuals in the university’s catchment area; and to what degree the existing curriculum meets the specific needs of assistant principals in their current positions. The purpose of this study is to determine whether or not the coursework and curriculum presented in a university’s leadership preparation programs is meeting the needs of both novice and veteran assistant principals in the region that this university serves.
