The findings reported here are from a larger study focused on evaluating the effects of a team-based school model guiding interventions to address ninth graders manifesting problems in attendance, behavior, or course failure. In the study promotion coaches were assigned to ten southern high schools to mobilize school staff involved with ninth graders to monitor data and implement interventions to improve ninth grade outcomes. Promotion coaches sent in weekly logs and participated in an hour long interview. Findings presented in this paper relate to the challenges that were encountered in starting up the team-based intervention system at ten schools, gaining access to student data, implementing regular team meetings, and implementing interventions for students.
