Trickle-up social justice addresses conditions our most oppressed citizens face, such as students of color in the School to Prison Pipeline (Spade, 2011). The literature suggests that special education status and gender are tied to the School to Prison Pipeline and that females of color with disabilities have unique experiences in education. What remains an empirical question is: what can incarcerated young women of color with disabilities tell us about their experiences within the Pipeline? Results identified the processes and practices in which girls were criminalized and educated as well as ways girls navigated their lives with savvy and ingenuity. Ultimately, this study addresses how to intervene on behalf of females of color with disabilities in the juvenile justice system.
