The purpose of this study was to test a partial version of the domain identification model proposed by Osborne and Jones (2011). We investigated the measurement of the MUSIC Model of Academic Motivation (Jones, 2009) and four mediating variables (i.e., engineering identification, engineering utility, engineering program belonging, and engineering program expectancy) separately, followed by the full structural model which also included likelihood of engineering major and career. Based on the fit indices, we documented strong evidence for model data fit in all three cases. Except engineering program belonging, the other three mediating variables had significant relations with engineering major and career. The success component of the MUSIC model had the greatest impact on all of the four mediating variables.
