Decolonizing Architecture of Participation for the Uganda National Museum: Web 2.0 Expressions of Heritage Sites

Abstract

This study addresses problematics in the conceptualization and development of a Web 2.0 decolonizing architecture of participation with e-learning capabilities for the Uganda National Museum in Kampala. Working with the museum for several years now, we examine from decolonizing vantage points a collection of data – the videoing and interviewing of seven Ugandan heritage tribal sites. It is imperative to document potential lost heritage of the sites and through oral interviews to capture the oral culture of older people who have lived their lives in the shadows of these sites. Hence, the study explores ways to capture and re-represent potential lost Ugandan heritage both physical and oral through Ugandan voices and mediated with Web 2.0 technologies.
